Our project encompassed designing, building, and testing an equipment-positioning device for a medical device company. From speaking to our sponsor, performing background research, exploring various concepts, employing decision matrices, and building a concept prototype, we converged onto a design that employs linear guide rails, servo motor actuation, a programmable logic controller (PLC), and a PC-based software interface.
Once our design was approved, we ordered components, manufactured custom parts, and built our physical system, which is comprised of the mechanical assembly and an electrical enclosure that houses all electrical components. Once the system was built, we programmed the controller and developed a software user interface to run on a PC. Finally, we tested, debugged, and refined our project.
proved our project to be robust, highly accurate and precise, easy to use and maintain, and ready to install at the client's location.
